In the big story of history, there are these amazing moments where God’s power meets human effort, making a beautiful harmony. Joshua 6:20 is one of those moments. The trumpets blared; the people cheered! The huge walls of Jericho just fell down. And get this— It was not by human might or strategy alone but it was all because of God’s awesome power.
When the Lord called us to co-pastor a ministry in Barbados in 2016, Julian and I took a step of faith and said, “Yes!” Previously, we were worship pastors at a church with primarily upper-middle-class members. In contrast, this small ministry was in a community with socio-economic uncertainties and few resources amidst a severe national economic recession. So, we desperately needed God’s strategy.
One day while praying, I saw a prophetic picture of Israel’s army as they faced Jericho. The Lord had given them instructions to march around Jericho’s walls and shout (Joshua 6). What a heavenly strategy! I felt the Lord’s assurance that He would release divine guidance for our community, and He did!
As we go through our own journeys, trying to do what God wants us to do, we bump into all sorts of problems. Sometimes it's stuff from the world, or maybe it's the bad guy trying to trip us up, or even just our own worries and doubts. Yet, let us not be dismayed, for in the furnace of opposition, the faith of the believer is refined.
God’s not about sticking to one place or one group of people. He wants His love to reach everyone, tearing down any barriers between us. Even when we don’t have much, God always provides. With simple acts of kindness and support, we’ve seen lives changed by the love of Jesus.
Our journey inspired a song called "Walls Come Down", a reminder that God’s plans always lead to victory. Our strength doesn’t come from fancy weapons but from God’s power working in us. With God’s wisdom, we speak truth and take bold steps, knowing that nothing can stand against Him.
So, when things get tough, let’s stay strong. Remember, God’s on our side, and He’s way stronger than anything we face. Let’s listen to His voice, trust His wisdom, and keep moving forward. Armed with faith, let us march forward, for the walls of opposition shall surely crumble.
Indeed, the victory belongs to the Lord, and in His strength, we shall prevail.
